Wound Care
Each year, approximately 6 million Americans will suffer problem wounds caused by diabetes, circulatory problems and many other conditions. The diabetic wound management program focuses on overall diabetic wound care and promotion of an optimal wound healing environment including prevention, therapeutic and rehabilitative interventions. The wound care nurse is responsible to educate patients on how to care for their wounds outside of the medical office. A wound care nurse will also treat any skin infections or conditions as directed by the attending physician.
Diabetes Educator
A Diabetes educator helps people who have or are at risk of developing diabetes. Diabetes education helps diabetics learn about the disease and develop the skills they need to manage it successfully by modifying their own behavior. This process involves the person with diabetes, their family or caregiver and the diabetes educator. The goal of diabetes education is to help the diabetic achieve and maintain optimal health and better quality of life. A diabetic educator teaches the client about diabetes, nutrition, appropriate activity levels and glucose monitoring and medication if appropriate.
