About Us

Rooted in Rural Healthcare. Growing for What’s Next.

For generations, Morrison Community Hospital has been more than a Critical Access Hospital and healthcare provider. It’s been a lifeline for Morrison and our neighboring rural communities — including Albany, Chadwick, Fenton, Fulton, Lyndon, Milledgeville, Prophetstown, and many others.

With 25 acute and skilled-care beds, we remain a true rural hospital and go above and beyond to deliver the type of care that makes rural healthcare so special: personal relationships, neighbors caring for neighbors, and a deep understanding of the people we serve.

A Tradition of Care for Over 80 Years

The story of Morrison Community Hospital runs deep — shaped not by large systems or outside investors, but by determined neighbors who believed their community deserved access to care close to home. Below are a few highlights from our decades-long journey of serving Morrison and its surrounding communities.

Early Days

The first emergency health services began on the corner of Lincolnway and Genesee in a modest home owned and organized by the Women’s League. In 1930, the operation moved to Dr. W. J. Maurits’ office at 219 East Main Street, where the hospital operated on the second floor.

1942

Due to growing demand, the first Morrison City Hospital opened on North Jackson Street with 16 beds, funded by donations and bonds.

1954

The hospital expanded to 32 beds and was renamed Morrison Community Hospital.

1974

A $3 million expansion increased the bed capacity to 84 beds.

Today

Morrison Community Hospital now operates with 25 acute and skilled-care beds— intentionally right-sized to deliver award-winning, personalized care while continuing to modernize to meet the needs of a growing community.

Our Mission & Promise to You

Local Access. Local Care.

Because our patients often travel long distances for medical care, we make it our mission to offer as many essential services as possible right here in Morrison. That means our hospital offers:

And when we can’t bring a specialist here in person, we connect patients through telemedicine — including our endocrinology partnership that brings advanced care directly to local screens.

Investing in Modern Medicine

Morrison Community Hospital has never been content to stand still. Just as our community and today’s standards for care grow and change, so do we — investing in the spaces, technology, and infrastructure that help us deliver exceptional care close to home. Because of that, over the past few years, we’ve made strategic, sustainable investments to modernize and bring more advanced medical services to our region. Some of our recent improvements include:

Major Facility Expansions

Our commitment to modern care is reflected in a $20.5 million campus expansion that reshaped the way we serve our community. This project delivered a new Emergency Department, a state-of-the-art operating room, and fully upgraded lab and radiology services. We also began an additional 22,000 sq. ft. expansion in 2025, featuring a welcoming pediatric waiting area, larger registration space, and a renovated nurse station designed around comfort and efficiency. Plans for a third operating room and new procedure rooms ensure we’re ready for the next chapter of care.

Modern Support Infrastructure

Behind every patient visit is a backbone of technology and systems designed for safety, precision, and expanded access to care. We’ve strengthened our radiology services to support both inpatient and outpatient needs, and upgraded critical areas such as negative air pressure rooms and pharmacy clean rooms to enhance infection control.

We also embrace the tools that help rural hospitals bridge the gap between local care and specialized expertise. Through telemedicine, advanced laboratory and imaging equipment, and robotic technologies brought in through specialist partnerships, we’re able to extend high-level care to our community — without needing to duplicate the size or complexity of a large urban hospital.

Built-In Flexibility for Future Growth

Recognizing that healthcare evolves quickly, we designed new construction with adaptability at its core. An open second-floor space was intentionally left unfinished so it can adjust to future service needs, allowing us to grow responsively without overbuilding.

A Sustainable Financial Strategy

We modernize with purpose. Our expansions are funded through cash reserves and low-interest USDA loans, allowing us to upgrade responsibly without unsustainable debt. As surgical volume, ER utilization, and clinic visits continue to rise, these forward-thinking investments are supported by clear, growing demand from the community.

Recognized for Excellence

Quality care has always been at the heart of Morrison Community Hospital — and that commitment has been recognized nationally. For three consecutive years (2021, 2022, and 2023), we ranked in the Top 10% of all Critical Access Hospitals in the United States for delivering exceptional, personalized patient care. These awards are an honor that reflects not just our medical expertise, but the dedication of every nurse, provider, technician, and volunteer who shows up each day to care for their neighbors.

Our Future, Guided by Our Community

From our earliest days in a modest home on Lincolnway to the modern, expanding campus we operate today, Morrison Community Hospital has always belonged to the people we serve. And as we look ahead, our mission remains the same as it has for more than 80 years: to care for the people of Morrison and the surrounding rural communities with compassion, innovation, and integrity.

Every expansion, every new service, and every improvement is guided by a simple belief — that high-quality, modern care should be available close to home. We continue that legacy with the same purpose that started it: quality care, compassionate service, and a commitment to meeting our community’s needs — today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.
