Expansion Project Updates

Our History & Commitment to Community Care

The roots of healthcare in Morrison date back to the early 1900s, when the Women’s League organized the community’s first emergency health services at the corner of Lincolnway and Genesee Street. Their dedication laid the foundation for what would become a lasting commitment to local healthcare.

In 1930, Dr. W. J. Maurits opened a medical office at 219 East Main Street, with a small hospital operating on the second floor. The success of this early effort led to a significant milestone on June 10, 1942, when Morrison City Hospital opened at its current location on North Jackson Street. Built through generous community donations and bond initiatives, the new facility provided 16 patient beds.

By 1954, the hospital expanded to 32 beds and was renamed Morrison Community Hospital. Continued growth followed in 1972 with a $3 million expansion that increased capacity to 84 beds.

October 2019 Groundbreaking

Providing top-rated health care for the community has been a priority since the first Morrison health care facility opened its doors in 1930 and that remains true today at Morrison Community Hospital with the completion of its multi-faceted expansion and renovations to better serve patients.

October 2021,  the hospital officially cut the ribbon on a multi-step construction project. Pam Pfister, CEO at Morrison Hospital said, “This project has afforded us with increased capacity for patients and advanced our service lines. The scope of the project includes a new state-of-the-art operating room, emergency department, eight private patient care rooms on the medical surgical floor, a new laboratory department, rehab department and new office space for the billing and coding departments.”

The exterior additions include a new ambulance garage and helipad to allow for emergency patient transports. A new employee parking lot was added to the west side of the hospital accommodating additional staff parking. The employee population has grown 10 percent since the groundbreaking event in September 2019 and the patient volumes has increased substantially. With increased staffing this lends to a significant impact to economic support to the local community and surrounding area.

Morrison Community Hospital is proud to offer a variety of specialists, who can work with patients and their local physicians to review health concerns and develop care plans.

May 2026- Morrison Community Hospital will complete a $14 Million Expansion

Morrison Community Hospital is excited to announce a $14 million expansion project, scheduled for completion in May 2026. With space currently at a premium, this expansion will significantly increase capacity for our primary care and walk-in clinic services. Looking to the future, CEO Pam Pfister emphasized the hospital’s commitment to expanding primary care to better support long-term health, particularly for our aging population. A recent study found that approximately 20% of Carroll County residents are over the age of 65 and often face chronic health conditions. This growing need underscores the importance of accessible, comprehensive care close to home.

Here’s what the expansion entails:
